Hiccup found it hilarious he had to ask where his wife (possible soon to be ex) was from people in town. As if he needed to spread more rumors about their collapsing marriage. Frankly, Hiccup did miss Mavis, despite the night with Hans. However the both of them got married too young. Hiccup's guilty conscience demanded he at least try to talk with Mavis.

Mavis was twirling around in the garden she had created among the emptiness. She flicked her wrists causing roses and lilies and daisies to grow from the nothingness. She thought she was alone of coarse so she giggled, dancing around in the soft grace as the aroma of flowers filled the air. She missed Hiccup more than anything and she was often so miserable but she had moments of joy like this one.

Hiccup caught Mavis in his sight. He couldnt help but grin seeing her so happy. He almost didn't want to spoil it. "Hey...Mavis." he called hesitantly.

She whirled around to face him, stumbling backwards a little. She seemed a little nervous now. "Um.. hey Hiccup.." Mavis casted her eyes downward, shifting on her feet.

Hiccup held his hand up in a wave for a while before dropping it and clearing his throat. "I was wondering if you wanted to...go for a walk? A friendly one, uh, like friends do."

Mavis scoffed and almost made a comment about how they weren't friends, but decided against it. It wouldn't hurt if she tried to get along with him. They used to be great friends once, after all. "I guess that's fine."

Hiccup smiled with relief. He knew they weren't friends, but hoped they could rekindle that. Especially for the kids. "So..how are things?" he asked as they walked.

Hiccup shrugged, frowning. "I don't know. Should I change my question?" He knew he hurt Mavis after their split, but wasn't sure if she would hold back telling him that.

"Well Hiccup, truth is, my life fucking sucks. I hate my life. I've contemplating jumping off a building but I love my kids to much. Does that answer your question?" She didn't mean to be cruel, but she figured the truth was better than lying.

Hiccup stopped walking and turned to her with a sad look. "Mavis. I loved you, and still do despite everything. And I know we ended on really bad terms. But don't you ever think about leaving before it's your time." He put a hand on her shoulder. "The kids need you, we all need you. We'd never be the same without you."

Mavis shrugged his hand off of her, continuing to glare at the ground. "I'm still here aren't I?" she whispered with a small sigh, "And stop using 'we' like you care because I honestly don't think you do. However, we aren't going to argue about it now. I don't have the energy for it."

Hiccup would rather not talk about himself. It would go something like, 'I know we've been divorced for only a while but I made out with some dude and I may be dating the most feared demon in Discord's daughter. All in all fine.' Hiccup shrugged. "Nothing special. I've been helping Rapunzel and Astrid babysit, I learned some great new tricks for my powers..." he stopped, thinking he was being too cheerful. "I've also been thinking about the kids too. I was wondering if I could take them this weekend?"
